Goodbye Sweaty Armpits!

Sweating can be an issue for many living in a humid country. It is normal as sweating is a response to regulating body temperature.

BUT, BUT, BUT! Too much sweat can cause stained shirts and body odor, affecting daily life and self-esteem!

Hyperhidrosis is a condition where you sweat excessively. There are 2 types of hyperhidrosis: primary and secondary. Secondary hyperhidrosis occurs as a result of an underlying cause such as medical conditions or side effects of medication.

Primary hyperhidrosis occurs when the nerve that triggers sweat glands become overactive. It commonly affects the underarms, palms, soles, and sometimes the face (focal hyperhidrosis).

Botox is effective in treating focal hyperhidrosis. Botox injections are done to block nerve signals responsible for triggering the sweat glands to produce sweat.

The treatment can be uncomfortable to some patients but generally well tolerated by most. Numbing cream is applied on the treatment area up to 40minutes before the injections. Bruising, mild tenderness and slight swelling may present after the procedure. You will start to see results within a week after the treatment. A repeated treatment will be needed every 4-6 months as the nerves regenerate.

Botox has helped to improve the quality of life of many patients. It has become a therapy for many patients who failed to respond to more conservative treatments before resorting to surgical treatment.
